Post 2 > Why did I choose my major/career?

When I was a child, I had the dream of being a restaurant chef or baker, but these dreams have been forgotten. When I was in high school I thought I wanted to study something related to math or human studies, but I wasn´t sure. What I had decided was that I wanted to study in the University of Chile. Then, I thought I could study pedadogy, since my family is a family of teachers, although my mother wanted me to study engineering or law. At shcool I liked to do math, physics and history tutoring and I was already doing chess classes. Also, I helped my mom who works as a kindergarten teacher, with her chores. What I like to do the most, is help her by checking the test or guides.

When I received my PSU result, I knew that I could get into most careers through sports scholarships, since I had a good result in maths and history. The options to study were Engineering, Architecture and Pedagogy. It was an easy decision to make, but difficult to share, since everyone wanted me to study Engineering. When I decided on Pedagogy, I had a conflict about the area: Mathematics or History? Finally, mathematics was the final decision, because I like mathematics, especially the Geometry.

I began college in 2019, and I feel that my experience has been an enriching one. I have had a great time despite the stress of tests and assignaments. I have met many people that I enjoy sharing and playing.

In the future, I would like to work in a rural school, just like my mom. It is a very different environment from what I experience in the pedagogical internsips. I currently wrk in schools soing chess lessons to kids and private math lessons. However, Math lessons to elentary kids or to high school kids? Is is something that I have been questioning myself since I started giving lessons to elementary school children. Once I graduate, I will know... For now, I will enjoy and lear.

  1. It's cute that your inspiration come from your mom. What it's her area? wherever, I know that her it's a great teacher!
